Centellear las sombras de un final (Glimmering the Shadows of an Ending) presents a selection of costumes from Polvo serán (2024), a musical film directed by Carlos Marqués-Marcet with costume design by Pau Aulí.
Antique curtains and upholstery, the anatomy of a skeleton, Art Deco, Catalan haute couture from the late 20th century, echoes of painting, and Baroque vanitas… These are some of the inspirations that Mallorcan costume designer Pau Aulí explored to create the rich visual universe of Polvo serán (2024), a musical film about love and death by filmmaker Carlos Marqués-Marcet.
In Aulí’s hands, the drama of fabrics goes beyond mere ornamentation to become a fundamental element. By playing with their complexity and subtlety, he creates a textile universe that envelops a story where music and dance express what words cannot. His intuitive creative process unfolds in a palette of nearly golden yellows, ochres, blues, browns, and burgundies.
The Casa Capell exhibition will showcase a selection of costumes designed by Aulí for the film—timeless, abstract, and displaced designs that are nonetheless precise and striking. These garments dress characters in improvised weddings, journeys to Switzerland, dances against an infinite black backdrop, family dinners, and awakenings among rose gardens. Costumes that appear in Polvo serán’s moving scenes—living still-lifes that glimmer in the shadows because, paradoxically, they speak of death.
